Save the Date Card Tutorial, Calendar Style

This tutorial is a step by step guide for how to make a DIY calendar rustic save the date card. It’s perfect for anyone planning a rustic wedding themed wedding day.

Adapt the design and create matching rustic wedding invitations and wedding stationery for the big day. With a ‘tying the knot’ theme, it’s ideal with its twine knot.

Sending a save the date card gives your guests plenty of notice to keep the date of the special day free before you send your wedding invitations out.

Save the Date Template Printing

  • This Save the Date template is free to use, and you can download from our website.
  • You can download a free Microsoft Word template from our website. Simply adjust the fonts to one that you have installed on your computer, or purchase and download a suitable font.
  • Add your names in place of Melissa and John.

  • Adjust the position of the heart images over the month and date of your wedding
  • Choose to print the panel on one of our precut cards or print one or two on a sheet of A4 card and then trim.
  • Double Check: Spelling, grammar, layout, wedding date (always ask someone else to proofread too), you can never do this too many times, it’s so easy to miss something vital.

How to Assemble your Save the Date

Once you have the printed and trimmed your save the date cards, you can start to assemble them. This is such an easy design to make. You can also use our precut postcard card blanks if you think this will make it easy for you.

  1. Cut a length of twine around 18cm in length and wrap around your save the date card.
  2. Tie the two ends into a knot, make it tight enough that the tension holds it on the edges.
  3. If you struggle to tie the knot and keep the tension tight use some tweezer clamps so that you can use both hands to tie the knot.
  4. All done, Save the Dates complete!
