About Us

The New Millennium

In the year 2000 our story begins!

At the start of the new millennium two mums who shared a love of paper, design and print had an idea to make wedding stationery.

From humble beginnings we now have our own offices, a warehouse and a fabulous, dedicated team who work hard to keep all our customers happy.

The World Wide Web

After many late nights learning Adobe Dreamweaver and SEO we created our first website and launched it in 2003.

Later in 2005 we launched a new updated website which incorporated our eccommerce DIY wedding invitations and craft shop.

Wedding Stationery and Invitations

Our early days were spent designing and creating wedding stationery for our lovely clients. We offered our customers the kind of service we wished for.

Our customers mainly came through recommendations and our website but we also exhibited at the occasional wedding fair.

Lovely Customers and Innovation

For many years we worked for hundreds of clients creating stationery and innovative table plans for weddings all around the world with a huge variety of wedding themes. We're proud to say that we began many of the stationery styles that are seen even today.

We created stationery for enormous weddings for celebrities at castles to small intimate family celebrations with a level of service, we’re proud to say, that was second to none!

With our origins in wedding stationery we have a vast amount of experience in ‘all things weddings’ and we’ve evolved into the UK’s most trusted wedding stationery suppliers.

Becoming a Limited Company in 2007

The Handcrafted Card Company Ltd was established formally in 2007.

In 2008 we moved from the kitchen table to a fabulous building called the 'Old Smithy' owned by none other than The Queen on the Duchy of Lancaster Estate near Crewe.

An update to our website followed. Our products found their way to creative couples and all types of wedding businesses from wedding stationers, event planners, through to florists, wedding jewellers and bakers, and many more. We sourced inspiring products for card making, wedding invitations and wedding styling.

What we couldn’t find we created, such as our ‘Enfolio’ ® pocketfolds, wallets and flat style invitations and ‘Chic Applique’ embellishments.

The Clockhouse in 2010

We soon out grew our lovely Smithy and moved to new premises ‘The Clockhouse’ in Newcastle-under-Lyme with offices and a warehouse in 2010. Two removal vans later (who knew ‘The Smithy’ held so much) over one weekend we were safely operating form our new warehouse.

We advised our customers on our ‘tricks of the trade’ and found rather than creating stationery ourselves we were showing our customers how to make their own. Not only that a large number of new wedding stationers were setting up and using us as their main wholesale supplier. This resulted in a rapid growth to this side of the business.

The Queen

Within two months of moving we were commissioned to make a commemorative paper bouquet for Her Majesty The Queen for presentation at Westminster Abbey.

We had already several years before created a table plan for Buckingham Palace and worked on one or two celebrity weddings but this was a particular highlight.

Creating More Space in 2013

Despite having a much larger building and more staff we found we needed even more space so we extended our warehouse space and updated our offices.

The National Wedding Shows

We demonstrated how to make DIY wedding stationery at the National Wedding Show for 2 years running. We were taken aback at how the audience lapped up ATG guns, infact our stand was so full we literally wore the carpet out!

Greeting Cards

But it’s not all about weddings!

We couldn’t supress our passion for quality, design led cards and we began designing greeting cards for retail in 2003. From our Potteries base we supply handmade greeting cards throughout the UK and export around the world to distributors, independent retailers, garden centres and department stores.

We exhibited at our first greeting card trade show in 2010 and they’ve now routinely become part of our yearly calendar and regularly include the Spring Fair , Autumn Fair and Harrogate Home and Gift Show.

Rebranding and wowvow

In 2017 we launched our wedding brand wowvow ® so that ‘The Handcrafted Card Company’ can be used exclusively for our greeting cards.
